KALIBO, Aklan – The first batch of CoronaVac vaccines by Chinese pharmaceutical Sinovac Biotech for Aklan had been administered.
A total of 2,420 shots were given to hospital and frontline healthcare workers from March 10 to 15.
The Provincial Health Office-Aklan received the bulk of CoronaVac on March 9 from the Department of Health (DOH) – 2,000 doses.
On March 10m 420 more doses were secured.
An infectious diseases specialist and a provincial health officer were the first to receive CoronaVac shots on March 10 in the presence of Aklan governor Florencio Miraflores and DOH regional director Dr. Emilia Monicimpo.
Miraflores said the rollout of the first doses of COVID-19 vaccines targeted eligible priority groups in Aklan.
The second doses for healthcare workers at the Aklan provincial hospital, private hospitals and municipal government hospitals would be administered 28 days after the first doses.
Aklan confirmed 18 new cases for the past 48 hours, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 1,027.
The death toll reached 32, according to the Aklan Epidemiological and Surveillance Unit.
Despite the vaccine rollout, Miraflores urged residents not to let their guard down and continue observing minimum health standards.
Meanwhile, the town of Kalibo launched an online pre-registration for those who wish to reserve their slot for the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
The local government allotted P50 million for the acquisition.
Kalibo intends to inoculate at least 70 percent of its 86,000 population to achieve herd immunity./PN
