ILOILO City – The onset of the dry season has prompted the Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) to prepare for a possible water shortage.
Rolex Jodieres`, general manager of MIWD, said the water district secured an additional supply of 5,000 cubic meters (cbm) of water daily from Flo Water Resources Inc.
“Sang una wala ‘ni, even sang summer last year,” said Jodieres.
MIWD is also sourcing out water from a deep well in Oton, iloilo with a capacity of 10,000 cbm daily.
“With this, mas maayo-ayo subong nga tuig (water supply) compared to last year’s,” said Jodieres.
The water district has an existing 13 production deep wells in the towns of Cabatuan, San Miguel, Pavia, and Oton which can supply around 6,000 cbm per day.
Last week, the state weather bureau officially announced the end of the northeast monsoon or Amihan and the start of the dry season.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the gradual shift in wind direction from northeasterly to easterly over most parts of the country due to the formation of the High Pressure Area (HPA) over the Northwestern Pacific Ocean signified the termination of the northeast monsoon and the start of the dry season.
The day-to-day weather across the country will gradually become warmer, though isolated thunderstorms are also likely to occur./PN
