ILOILO City – In Barangay Cubay, Jaro district here, nine persons were arrested for alleged illegal cockfighting.
They were residents Romy Edroso, 44; Rafael Aguilo, 47; Giovannie Bonilla, 42; and Noel Helidia, 37, of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras.
The others were Jayson Bryan Calawigan, 25, of Barangay Jereos, La Paz district; Felix Vila, 49, of Barangay Balabago, Jaro; Ernesto Lajera, 26, and Francis Plandis, 18, both of Barangay San Pedro, Jaro; and Nelson Ampig, 57, of Barangay San Pedro, Molo.
Joint elements of the Iloilo City Police Office and Jaro police station staged the operation around 3:50 p.m. on April 22.
Recovered from the suspects were two game fowls and P15,850 bet money, a police report showed.
The suspects were detained in the Jaro police station, facing charges for violation of Presidential Decree 449, or the Cockfighting Law of 1974./PN
