ILOILO – The provincial government is hiring 62 medical professionals to work at the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. It is also lending 45 beds to the hospital for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients.
“Ma-open sila (WVMC) sang isa ka ward of 62 beds…mapahulam lang kita kay tagaan man sila sang Department of Health. Nagahulat lang sila sang arrival,” according to Dr. Cynthia Cabangal-Ng, chief of the Hospital Management Office (HMO).
The bed augmentation is from these district hospitals:
* Jesus M. Colmenares Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Tingui-an, Balasan – 10
* Dr. Ricardo Y. Ladrido Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Poblacion, Ilawod, Lambunao – 15
* Federico Roman Tirador Sr. Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Jibolo, Janiuay – five
* Ramon D. Duremdes District Hospital in Barangay Ilaya 1st, Dumangas – five
* Aleosan District Hospital in Barangay Bancal, Alimodian – 10
Ng clarified that these beds were unutilized, thus their temporary use at WVMC would not in any way adversely affect the bed capacity of the district hospitals.
She said, as of this writing, out of the 813 total authorized bed capacity of the 12 district hospitals and Iloilo Provincial Hospital, 302 were allotted for mild and moderate COVID-19 patients while the remaining were reserved for non-COVID patients.Meanwhile, hiring of medical staff is also ongoing, said Ng.
The provincial government will pay the healthcare personnel that include 38 nurses, 16 nursing attendants, four respiratory therapists and four medical equipment technicians, she added.
Ng said many patients admitted at the WVMC came from the province.
Iloilo has 12 district hospitals and one provincial hospital. These are:

* Iloilo Provincial Hospital in Barangay Rumbang, Pototan;
* Jesus M. Colmenares Memorial District Hospital in Barangay Tingui-an, Balasan;
