ILOILO City – The city government has kicked off the preregistration for the vaccination of children between five to 11 years old against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
The preregistration is for the city’s children only and those studying in the metro.
The venue is SM City Iloilo Southpoint in Mandurriao district. It is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays. Just present a valid identification card or birth certificate of the child.
The city government targets to vaccinate 57,600 children. But no date has yet been set when this would commence.
“I can’t wait to protect our children from COVID-19. I hope parents will cooperate,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The city government will dedicate two of its mega vaccination sites for the vaccination of children – the covered gymnasium of Central Philippine University in Jaro district and that of Ateneo de Iloilo in Mandurriao district.
Yesterday in Metro Manila, the Department of Health (DOH) announced postponement of the pediatric COVID-19 vaccination scheduled on Feb. 4.
“The rollout…will be postponed for a few days due to logistical challenges,” the DOH said in an advisory.
The vaccination drive for this age group was initially scheduled on Feb. 4 in six pilot sites in Metro Manila but was moved to Feb. 7, Monday.
DOH explained that the postponement was to ensure “adequate preparation and distribution” of the Pfizer vaccines which is set to arrive on Feb. 4, the same day the inoculation drive was supposed to start.
As of writing, only Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine has been given emergency use authorization for kids aged five to 11./PN
