MANILA – F2 Logistics Cargo Movers hacked out a 25-16, 25-23, 25-22 sweep over defending champions Chery Tiggo Crossovers in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference last night at the Paco Arena in Manila City.
Ilongga Abigail Maraño and Kim Kianna Dy top-scored with 11 markers each. Ernestine Tiamzon added 10 markers.
The Cargo Movers surged to a 2-0 standings in Pool A. It was, however, pushed to the limit in the third set with the Crossovers threatening to within 22-24 before Maraño ended the match as she tipped the ball over the outstretched arm of Crossovers’ Joy Dacoron.
Maika Ortiz finished with 11 markers, including nine attacks, while Dindin Santiago-Manabat was held to just three points as the Crossovers slumped to 0-2 record.
In the first game, Choco Mucho Flying Titans kicked off its campaign with a 25-13, 25-11, 25-23 straight-set triumph against Black Mamba-Army Lady Troopers, which suffered its second defeat in as many games.
After handily winning the first two sets, the Flying Titans opened the third frame with an 8-4 lead but the Lady Troopers kept the match close and even took a 22-21 lead on a Jeanette Villareal block.
Pauline Gaston tied the score with an attack, while Caitlyn Viray unloaded consecutive hits for a 24-23 Choco Mucho lead before Deanna Wong ended the match with a drop shot.
Kat Tolentino spearheaded the offense for the Flying Titans with 11 points, including nine attacks, while Gaston and Viray contributed eight and seven markers, respectively.
On Thursday night, PVL 2021 Season runner up Creamline Cool Smashers notched an easy 25-16, 25-18, 25-22 victory over the revamped PLDT High Speed Hitters.
Diana Carlos spearheaded the offense for the Cool Smashers with 16 points, including 13 attacks, while Bacolodnon Fille Cainglet-Cayetano returned to volleyball with 14 markers./PN
