ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas is pushing for the resumption of face-to-face classes, citing the decreasing cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) here.
Iloilo City is already on Alert Level 1 but none of its primary and secondary schools have been allowed to hold i-person classes.
“May nabasahan ako nga ang capacity sang mga kabataan ta nga magbasa subong apektado gid sang pandemic,” said Treñas.
Iloilo City has been vaccinating children in preparation for the resumption of face-to-face classes. It targets to vaccinate 52,622 pediatric population aged 12 to 17 years old and 61,871 kids aged five to 11 years old.
As of the April 5 data of the Department of Health (DOH) Region 6, 47,486 or 90.24 percent of the target 12 to 17 years old kids were already fully vaccinated.
However, for the age group five to 11 years old, only 4,084 or 22.51 percent of the total target were inoculated.
Treñas said the vaccination of kids should be required to ensure their safety when they return to school for face-to-face classes.
“Hopefully, whoever will become President in June will be able to come up with more proactive solutions para sa pandemic. Kon indi ta pagbakunahan mga kabataan kag ibalik sa eskwelahan, kaluluoy gid ang edukasyon naton,” Treñas said./PN
