BACOLOD City – A landowner in this city survived an attempt on his life. His vehicle was strafed by unidentified gunmen at a popular shopping mall at the Reclamation Area yesterday afternoon.
Stray bullets also hit a parked van owned by a vice mayor in Negros Occidental.
Police have yet to publicly name the landowner as of press time but a statement issued by the manager of 72-year-old Cesar Nerphiol stated they were about to leave the parking lot when their vehicle was suddenly attacked.
The driver’s side window of Nerphiol’s sports utility vehicle (SUV) got smashed while a van owned by Valladolid vice mayor Roel Yogore was also hits.

Other witnesses claimed seeing the gunmen flee south along Palanca Street.
Nerphiol sustained only a minor scratch on his nose due to flying shattered glass.
Yogore’s driver who was lying down on the driver’s seat of the van during the shooting also managed to escape unharmed.
In a statement, Yogore clarified that he was not the target of the shooting./PN
