‘Illegal gambling’ sends 9 men to jail

BACOLOD City – Police personnel arrested nine men in two separate anti-illegal gambling operations on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

The Murcia municipal police led by Major Marc Joeil Reclamado apprehended suspects Joren Flores, 25; Dario Melcho, 33; Juanito Verayon, 79; and Mark Granada, 43.

They were caught playing pool at around 5:50 p.m. in Barangay Damsite, Murcia, Negros Occidental, where they also resided.

On the other hand, five suspects were caught playing ball games at around 7:50 p.m. in Kabankalan City’s Barangay 5.

Arrested were Jonel Hayo, 20, of Moises Padilla; Adrian Aguilar, 32, of Cadiz City; Julius Escodilla, 46; Allan Torres, 49; and Aron Alarcon, 23, residents of Kabankalan City.

The operation was conducted by the city police, led by Lieutenant Colonel John Joel Batusbatusan.

All suspects will be facing charges under Presidential Decree 1602, which prescribes stiffer penalties for illegal gambling./PN
