ILOILO – A late night fire wiped out the old public market of Estancia town on Sunday.
The town’s lone fire truck failed to control the blaze.
The public market was made of light materials.
An initial estimate of the damage reached P5 million.
According to Senior Insp. Lorenez Losaria, Estancia police chief, the fire started around 9:45 p.m. and quickly spread.
No one was reported injured.
The fire lasted for an hour.
Fire trucks from neighboring municipalities failed to respond immediately.
As of press time, arson investigators were still determining the cause of the blaze.
This was the fifth time that the old public market was gutted by fire.
In October 8, 2012, the old public market was also razed by fire. An estimated 155 stalls were totally burned.
The origin of said fire was reportedly a beauty parlor.
The total damage reached to P11.4 million./PN
