CAPIZ – From Jan. 1 to May 25 this year, 38 cases of Omicron subvariants were detected in this province.
In its official statement issued on May 25, the Capiz Provincial Government, through the Provincial Health Office, confirmed that 38 of its coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are caused by various subvariants of Omicron.
Results of the Whole Genome Sequencing conducted by the University of the Philippines-Philippine Genome Center Western Visayas showed that the cases include:
* 13 cases of Omicron XBB 1.16
* five cases of Omicron CM 8.1.1
* four cases of Omicron XBB 1.5
* four cases of Omicron XBB 1.9.1
* three cases of Omicron XBB
* two cases of Omircon XBB1.5.24
* two cases of Omicron XBB 1.9.2
* two cases of Omircon XBB 2.3
* one case of Omicron XBB 1.5.20
* one case of Omicron XBB 1.9, and
* one case of Omicron CM 8.3.
Meanwhile, the provincial government reiterated and emphasized the paramount significance and essential advantages of receiving the primary and secondary series of COVID-19 immunizations as well as booster doses amid the increasing cases.
It also urged the public to diligently adhere to the minimum public health standards, such as wearing face masks, practicing social distancing, maintaining proper hygiene, and complying with other relevant measures within their respective localities./PN
