ILOILO City – The electricity supply on Panay Island, including Guimaras, has been fully restored after several days of rotational brownouts caused by a power blackout.
MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power), the sole power distributor in this city, announced at 12:11 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, that all six of its substations were operational again. This includes the restoration of all residential feeders under MORE Power.
The blackout in MORE Power’s franchise area began at 3:07 p.m. on Jan. 2. Rotational loading commenced on the afternoon of Jan. 3, after receiving clearance from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
MORE Power’s primary focus was to promptly restore electricity to all customers, especially those who had been without power since the blackout’s onset. Hospitals and other critical institutions were prioritized to ensure public safety and prevent jeopardizing lives during the limited power supply distribution.
The stabilization by MORE Power was in conjunction with the synchronization of the power generator Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) in Concepcion, Iloilo with the NGCP.
By 12:49 p.m. on Friday, PCPC had reached a stable output of 135 megawatts.
PCPC, the last major power plant on Panay Island to synchronize with the NGCP, had shut down at approximately 2:19 p.m. on Jan. 2, along with Unit 2 of the Panay Energy Development Corporation (PEDC).
Additionally, Iloilo 1 Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ILECO) III reported that all its feeders were energized by 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
Similar updates were provided by ILECO II and ILECO I, confirming the restoration of power supply in their respective coverage areas by 12:30 p.m.
ILECO assured that for areas still experiencing power outages, assistance would be provided as soon as possible upon receiving a message.
The Antique Electric Cooperative, Inc. (ANTECO), too, informed its consumers about the full restoration of power.
“Power is now fully restored in all coverage areas of ANTECO. Based on the NGCP update, the power supply on Panay Island is stable, and the NGCP has lifted the manual load dropping activity in all provinces affected by the unscheduled shutdown of power generators,” ANTECO’s statement read.
Capiz Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CAPELCO) announced that as of 12:20 p.m. on Friday, all its feeders were 100 percent energized, except in areas undergoing clearing activities.
CAPELCO is monitoring the system and hopes to maintain normalcy to avoid further allocation of power supply.
In Guimaras, the Guimaras Electric Cooperative (GUIMELCO) declared that by 11:20 a.m., the entire province had its power supply fully restored./PN
