BACOLOD City – A 54-year-old woman identified as Jossie Mondejar died while being treated at the hospital after a shooting incident in Sitio Beranio, Barangay Lantad in Negros Occidental’s Silay City.
The suspects were Alfredo Bitalac Jr., an 18-year-old student, and Aljun Bitalac, a 29-year-old Intel Officer 1 of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Based on the testimony to the police of the victim’s child, they were outside their home on Thursday morning, Feb. 1, when approached by Alfredo and Aljun. Without a warning or visible provocation, Alfredo allegedly shot Jossie with an unidentified firearm.
The victim succumbed to a gunshot wound to her head.
In a subsequent hot pursuit operation, the two suspects were apprehended and are currently in the custody of the Silay City Police Station for appropriate legal measures.
Initial police investigation showed that the alleged motive for the shooting was a land dispute.
According to the victim’s child, the two families had a misunderstanding sometime in 2019, and the case was brought to court, where Jossie won.
