ILOILO City – Two high-value suspects were captured in a drug operation in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro district, for possession of illegal drugs and an unlicensed firearm.

“Ruben” and “Alex,” both residents of said barangay, agreed to sell P16,000 worth of shabu to an undercover police on Thursday morning, Feb. 1.

The operation was carried out by the personnel of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU), Regional Maritime Unit 6, and Police Station 3.

According to CDEU chief Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Benitez Jr., more or less 208 grams of suspected shabu with a street value of P1,414,000 were recovered.

“We believe that drugs were intended for Jaro fiesta. We have been tailing him for how many months, and when we got the asset, we immediately transacted him,” Benitez said.

The police also seized a caliber .38 revolver from Ruben.

It was learned that Ruben was arrested sometime in 2017 in Jaro district for the same offense, but he was later released from jail.

Both apprehended individuals were detained at Jaro Police Station. They will be charged for violations of the Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and RA 10591, or Illegal Possession of Unlicensed Firearm./PN
