GUIMARAS – This island province’s 25-day Manggahan Festival officially kicked off yesterday afternoon.
Gov. Joaquin Carlos “JC” Rahman Nava yesterday highlighted that the provincial government allotted a P35-million budget for a grander festival that will run until May 22 that will not only showcase the renowned Guimaras mangoes but also other products.
He added that the festival will feature more activities/events, especially on weekends wherein more tourists are expected in the province.
The province, Nava said, is expecting 100,000 visitors for this year’s Manggahan Festival, which is expected to boost the local economy.
Last year, the Manggahan Trade Fair revenue reached around P30 Million.
“Mismo diri lang sa capitol grounds, ang tanan nga exhibitors and participant managed to have a better revenue nga na-earn for pila ka weeks nga Manggahan Festival. Naka-generate sila sang sufficient nga figure which was far beyond what the provincial government had expected,” the governor said.
For the “Mango Eat-All-You-Can,” Nava said they have added more days for more visitors to take part and enjoy tis one of the sought-after activities of the annual festival. From last year’s four days, it would be 12 days this year.
For just P100 registration fee, one can consume an unlimited number of mangoes for 30 minutes.
The schedules for Mango Eat-All-You-Can:
For May 3
* 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
For May 4 to 5, May 10 to 12, and May 17 to 22
* 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
* 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
* 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
* 11:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
* 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
* 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.
* 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
* 4:15 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The governor added that the province has prepared 20 tons of mangoes for the Mango Eat-All-You-Can.
Other highlights of the festival are the Miss Guimaras Coronation Night on May 17 and street dance competition on May 22.
