SAN JOSE, Antique – A Chinese crew member was rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) after suffering a severe injury at Semirara Port, Caluya, Antique.
The incident occurred around 9 a.m., July 4, when the crew member’s left thumb was accidentally severed by a fan blade, necessitating immediate medical attention.
The injured individual, identified as the 35-year-old second engineer of the Hong Kong-flagged bulk carrier MV BBG Qinzhou, was promptly attended to by the PCG.
According to a PCG Facebook post, coordination with the ship’s captain and vessel’s agent facilitated the deployment of BRP Kalanggaman (FPB-2404) to a rendezvous point 1.5 nautical miles off Nogas Island, Anini-y, Antique.
Four PCG personnel provided medical assistance to the injured crew member while en route to Muelle Loney Wharf in Iloilo City, ensuring his stable condition upon hospital arrival./PN
