BACOLOD City – In light of the ongoing certificate of candidacy (COC) filing for the upcoming elections, Brigadier General Jack Wanky, the regional director of Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), visited Bacolod City on October 4 to inspect the implemented security measures.
The filing, which began on October 1 and continues until October 8, including weekends, is being closely monitored to ensure it proceeds peacefully.
Wanky emphasized that while there are no current reports of areas of concern or active armed groups in Negros Occidental, the situation remains under close observation.
“The assessment is based on our records from the past three to four elections, and fortunately, those previously identified concerns have since become inactive,” Wanky said.
The security oversight involves a collective effort by the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC), which includes the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and the PNP.
Wanky clarified that it is not solely up to the police to identify potential hotspots but rather a coordinated effort among all agencies involved.
During his visit, Wanky inspected venues such as the social halls of the Capitol and Liga ng mga Barangay, where COC filings are taking place for provincial and city-level candidates, respectively. He was accompanied by Colonel Joeresty Coronica, director of the Bacolod City Police Office./PN
