ILOILO City – This city’s anti-drug operatives arrested an 18-year-old lad and seized approximately P1,156,000 worth of suspected shabu in Barangay Calumpang, Molo district on Monday night, October 7.

The Grade 11 student identified as alias “John”, a resident of Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo district, was caught in a buy-bust operation carried out by the Iloilo City Police Office’s City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) after he handed a plastic sachet of illegal drugs to a poseur buyer for P8,000.

Police confiscated a total of eight plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing around 170 grams.

According to Captain Ryan Christ Inot, chief of CDEU, the suspect served as a drug runner who delivers illegal drugs to Arevalo and Molo districts.

He has been under surveillance for several weeks before the operation, Inot added.

The police, meanwhile, were still verifying reports that the suspect’s source of illegal drugs was the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Barangay Ungka, Jaro district.

During an inventory, the suspect received a cellphone call and he told the police it was Geber Evangelista, a detainee at the BJMP Ungka.

The suspect is now under the custody of the Molo police station. He will be charged for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
