MANILA – As Russia’s aggression on Ukraine reached its 1,000th day, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has reiterated his support for the Ukrainian government and people.
In a social media post, President Marcos recalled his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in June where he stressed the Philippines’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.
“Yesterday marked the 1,000th day since the war in Ukraine began,” the Chief Executive wrote on his X account on Wednesday morning.
“It is our hope that we will see comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Ukraine is our valued partner, and our relations continue to go from strength to strength,” he added.
Zelenskiy, in a parliament session on Tuesday, has stated Ukraine would not trade its sovereignty or relinquish its right to its territories. He also ruled out the holding of new elections until peace is achieved.
“At this stage of the war, it is being decided who will prevail — whether us over the enemy, or the enemy over us Ukrainians… and Europeans, and everyone in the world who wants to live freely and not be subject to a dictator,” he said.
Zelenskiy set out a “resilience plan” for Ukraine as a domestic foil to the “victory plan” he pitched to Western allies earlier in the autumn. According to him, it was needed to force Russia to negotiate an end to the war in good faith.
