BACOLOD City – Almost 2,000 children from this city gathered at the amusement park in Silay City, Negros Occidental for a Children’s Fun Day on Saturday, November 23, as part of the activities in observance of the National Children’s Month this November.
Republic Act (RA) No. 10661 designates the month of November every year as “National Children’s Month” with the aim of promoting and safeguarding the rights and welfare of children.
This year’s 32nd observance of the National Children’s Month focuses on violence against children, with the theme “Break the Prevalence, End the Violence: Protecting Children, Creating a Safe Philippines.”
Children from different foundations and 61 barangays in this city including their parents and guardians have enjoyed the free entrance and rides at the amusement park provided to them by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez from his personal money.
Moreover, the city government, through its Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC), provided them food.
Earlier on November 22, the city government conducted a Children’s Congress Seminar-Workshop on online sexual abuse or exploitation of children.
Today, November 25, Orange Help Desk will be launched in a mall here. This desk will cater to abused women and children who seek guidance and help from the police, Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), and Public Attorney’s Office (PAO).
Councilor Celia Flor, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on women, gender, family and childcare, said in relation to the said national celebration, the SP had earlier passed a resolution for the city to participate and endorse activities and initiatives designed to enhance public awareness of children’s rights, foster a secure and nurturing environment for children, and promote their holistic development-physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.
Also, since Mayor Benitez assumed office in 2022, one of his programs is to give attention to the children through a fun day in the amusement park every year./PN
