MANILA – The Department of Justice (DOJ) is set to summon Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio for her assassination remark against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and others.
According to Undersecretary Jesse Andres, Duterte-Carpio is considered the mastermind and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will summon her to clarify her statement.
“The premeditated plot to assassinate the President, as declared by the self-confessed mastermind, will now face legal consequences,” Andres said in a Malacañang briefing.
The DOJ, in a separate statement, stated that they are now investigating.
“If the evidence warrants, this could lead to eventual prosecution,” the DOJ said.
Duterte-Carpio made the kill remark early Saturday morning against President Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House of Representatives Speaker Martin Romualdez, if she herself gets killed.
“Huwag kang mag-alala sa security ko kasi may kinausap na ako na tao. Sinabi ko sa kanya, ‘pag pinatay ako, patayin mo si BBM, si Liza Araneta, at si Martin Romualdez,” Duterte-Carpio said.
“Nagbilin na ako, Ma’am. ‘Pag namatay ako, huwag ka tumigil hanggang hindi mo mapapatay sila. And then he said ‘yes’,”’ the Vice President added.
Duterte-Carpio on Monday clarified that her “assassination” statement was not a threat, saying she only highlighted the alleged threat to her security. She added that it was taken out of context./PN
