AKLAN – A 76-year-old woman was allegedly swindled by unidentified suspects in a supermarket along Toting Reyes Street in Kalibo, Aklan on Tuesday morning, December 17.

Alias “Lina”, a resident of Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, recounted the incident to the Kalibo Municipal Police Station (MPS), saying the suspects approached her, claiming to be acquaintances of her child.

The suspects allegedly lured her outside the supermarket, promising exclusive offers inside a vehicle parked nearby.

Trusting their claims, the victim complied and was further convinced to remove her jewelry as instructed by the suspects. Shortly after, the suspects made off with cash amounting to P50,000 and her jewelry.

The victim’s family, however, requested the Kalibo MPS to temporarily hold off on the investigation due to inconsistencies in the victim’s statements.

Following the incident, Kalibo police urged the public, especially the elderly, to remain vigilant against similar schemes and to report suspicious individuals to the police immediately./PN
