ANTIQUE – Two men were killed and one was injured following a dispute over unpaid corn damaged by a cow in Barangay General Luna, San Remigio town in this province.
Police identified the fatalities as Gerald Gallano, 37, a farmer, and Jessmar Tomacho, 25, a laborer, while Tomacho’s brother-in law, Jefferson Pedro, 21, was wounded. All three are residents of the said barangay.
Initial investigation revealed that tensions flared after Gallano and Jimson Tomacho, 55, Jessmar’s father, exchanged heated words via a hand-held radio on Dec. 31, 2024. The conflict stemmed from allegations that Jimson’s cow had damaged Gallano’s corn crop, for which payment was not settled.
The dispute took a violent turn the following morning, January 1, when Gerald and his father, Alfredo, went to the Tomacho residence to locate Jimson.
Police said they reached the upper portion of the Tomacho’s house where they encountered Jimson, Jessmar and Jefferson.
A gunfight ensued between them, with both sides using a 12-gauge shotgun, and leaving two dead and one wounded at around 7 a.m.
Jimson was taken into custody by the San Remigio police station.
