ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Iloilo City has released the list of designated common poster areas ahead of the May 12 national and local elections.
The move, announced on February 4, aims to ensure compliance with the Fair Election Act and provide clear guidelines for candidates and party-list groups during the campaign period.
Jonathan Sayno, election officer of Iloilo City, said the marking of these designated areas began on February 7.
“Marking the designated poster areas is crucial to ensure all candidates follow the guidelines. It also helps the public easily identify legitimate posting zones, reducing clutter and illegal postings,” Sayno said.
The designated poster areas for each district are as follows:
* City Proper – at Plaza Libertad – J.M. Basa Street, facing Coffee Break and Masonic Temple.
* Arevalo – at Plaza Villa – Rizal Street, corner Osmeña Street, to Arevalo Church, facing Avanceña/Rizal Park.
* Jaro – at Plaza Jaro – Rizal Street, corner Iloilo East Coast Road, facing Land Bank Jaro to Ledi Supermart.
* La Paz – at Plaza La Paz – Huervana Street, from corner Burgos Street to corner Jereos Street, facing La Paz Police Station and La Paz Elementary School.
* Lapuz – at Bo. Obrero Plaza – Dahlia Street, facing Bo. Obrero Catholic Church.
* Mandurriao – at Plaza Mandurriao – Oñate De Leon Street, facing 7-11 Convenience Store to corner Iloilo City-Aleosan Road.
* Molo – Plaza Molo – facing Molo Caltex Station and Molo Mansion on Locsin Street.
The campaign period for national candidates and party-list groups will start on February 11 while local candidates can begin their campaigns on March 28.
Sayno reminded candidates that only national candidates and party-list groups are allowed to use the common poster areas starting February 11. Local candidates must wait until their designated campaign period begins on March 28.
Candidates who violate the guidelines may face legal consequences, including fines and potential disqualification, Sayno warned.
The public is urged to report any violations to help maintain the integrity of the elections./PN
