ILOILO City – Police apprehended a 46-year-old man in Jaro district over the weekend as part of their continued efforts to curb loose firearms and maintain security ahead of the May 12 midterm elections.
Alias “Lino” was caught in possession of caliber .45 pistol with a loaded magazine, pellet gun replica, brown holster, lower receiver with a barrel, and drug paraphernalia hidden in a green eyeglass case.
The successful operation was executed on Saturday, March 29, on Dollar Avenue, Phase II, Banker’s Village in Barangay Tabuc Suba, Jaro by joint operatives of the Iloilo City Police Station 9 under Major Eduardo S. Siacon Jr., City Intelligence Unit and Iloilo City Mobile Force Company-Special Weapons and Tactics.
The suspect is now in police custody and will be charged for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act), Commission on Elections gun ban, and Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002).
Police Colonel Kim Legada, director of the Iloilo City Police Office, reiterated the police force’s commitment to crackdown against illegal firearms to prevent their use in criminal activities. “We will not relent in our campaign against loose firearms. Those who continue to possess unlicensed weapons should expect law enforcement operations against them. Better surrender them to the nearest police station,” Legada added./PN
