RUFA Mae Quinto could not seem to contain her elation as she announced that the complaint for alleged violation of the Securities Regulation Code against her was dismissed.
The said complaint stemmed from her prior endorsement of skincare company Dermacare, which has been linked to an alleged investment scam.
Mary Louise Reyes, one of Quinto’s legal team, confirmed the dismissal of the case through her Instagram Stories on Saturday, May 3.
“On behalf of Ms. Rufa Mae Quinto, gusto po naming magpasalamat nang taos-puso sa lahat ng nag-“HELP HELP HOORAY” – lahat ng sumuporta, nagdasal, naniwala, at hindi agad nanghusga. You stood by her, and that kind of loyalty and faith meant everything to her,” Reyes said.
“We confirm that on April 24, 2025, the Regional Trial Court of Pasay officially DISMISSED the complaint filed against Ms. Quinto involving alleged violations of the Securities Regulation Code (SRC),” she added.
Reyes further explained, “The dismissal was made ‘without prejudice’ — ibig sabihin, hindi ito tungkol sa kung guilty o innocent si Ms. Quinto, but because of a legal principle called primary jurisdiction. Simply put, ang mga ganitong klase ng reklamo ay dapat muna isinasampa sa Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) at hindi agad sa korte. The SEC is the proper agency na may authority para i-review at i-determine kung may violation talaga.”
Reyes then underscored that Quinto respects that legal process and that she will cooperate should there be a proper filing before the SEC: “Ipaglalaban at papatunayan [po namin] ang kanyang innocence.”
Quinto, for her part, showed herself all smiles amid the court’s decision.
“FFF hooray! Na-quash na case! I’m free as a kite! Malayang-malaya!” she said via her Instagram page. “To GOD be the GO GO GLORY!”
Quinto further shared that she pampered herself by visiting an aesthetic clinic, teasing as well that she was “preparing for something new and big.”
“Iba din nagagawa kapag malaya sa kaso!” she exlaimed. “Salamat sa inyong lahat na naniwala at nagtiwala sa akin!”
Quinto turned herself in to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) last January following an arrest warrant in relation to the alleged Dermacare investment scam. The actress was released from custody after posting bail amounting to P1.7 million.
Aside from Quinto, Neri Naig also faced syndicated estafa and securities violation cases as a celebrity endorser of Dermacare. These complaints were dismissed in March for lack of probable cause. (Anne Pasajol © Philippine Daily Inquirer)
