CAPIZ – Fourteen remote schools in Tapaz town are set to be energized soon, as the Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) committed to electrifying all schools in the province by 2028.
During an inter-agency press conference hosted by the Department of Education (DepEd) Capiz Schools Division Office, Capelco Maintenance and Service Department supervisor Denver Albao revealed that these schools remain unenergized due to their location in hard-to-reach areas.
“As of our record, there are still 14 schools in Capiz without power. We would like to apologize that these schools are yet to be energized,” Albao said.
He emphasized Capelco’s resolve to complete the electrification of all elementary and secondary schools within the next three years. The initiative is part of their broader mandate to ensure equitable access to power across the province.
Albao cited recent progress in Barangay Tabon, where Tabon Elementary School and around 150 households were successfully connected to electricity late last year.
To address current limitations, Capelco is exploring alternative solutions such as installing extension lines and solar power systems to accelerate the energization process.
In support of school readiness efforts, Albao also shared that Capelco’s Acting General Manager, Engr. Edgar Diaz, has directed personnel to assist with line clearing and classroom inspections during the annual Brigada Eskwela Week to ensure student safety.
Meanwhile, DepEd Schools Division Superintendent Roel Bermejo highlighted the need for dedicated electric transformers in some schools, as shared power lines with nearby communities result in unstable electricity and frequent outages.
Bermejo expressed optimism that the electrification goals will be met in due time.
“We are very happy to note that these 14 schools may soon see their long-time dream of having electricity finally come true,” he said.
Capelco has encouraged the Capiz Schools Division and affected school administrators to submit formal requests to facilitate timely and appropriate action. (PIA)
