CAPIZ – A 57-year-old member of the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) accidentally shot himself with his own firearm inside his home in Barangay Bita, Dao town, on June 22.
According to reports, the children of the victim, identified only by his alias “Jose,” heard a gunshot coming from inside their house. Upon checking, they found their father lying on the floor, bleeding from a wound on the left side of his leg.
Initial findings revealed that the victim had accidentally discharged a 12-gauge break-type shotgun.
Responders from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the Dao Emergency Response Unit immediately provided first aid and transported the victim to the nearest hospital for further medical treatment.
The firearm involved was surrendered to the Dao Municipal Police Station for proper handling and investigation./PN
