CAPIZ – Dengue cases in the province have surged to 772, with four fatalities recorded as of Morbidity Week 26 (January 1 to June 28, 2025), according to the Capiz Provincial Health Office (CPHO).
The current figure reflects a 34.26% increase compared to the same period last year, which logged 575 cases.
Based on the latest CPHO report, two of the deaths occurred in the municipality of Jamindan, while Dumalag and Roxas City each recorded one fatality.
Roxas City recorded the highest number of dengue cases with 261, followed by Tapaz with 106, Jamindan with 53, Panay with 51, and Mambusao with 42. Other municipalities with notable case counts include Dumarao (31), Pontevedra (30), Panitan (29), Dao (26), and Dumalag (26). Ma-ayon and Sigma each reported 19 cases, while Sapi-an and Ivisan had 17 cases each. President Roxas and Pilar both logged 16 cases, and Cuartero recorded the lowest with 13 cases.
The CPHO identified Brgy. Culasi, Brgy. Lawa-an, and Brgy. Tiza in Roxas City as areas with clustering of dengue cases. Clustering is defined as the occurrence of three or more cases in a specific location for four consecutive morbidity weeks.
The most affected age group is 10 to 19 years old, accounting for 27.59% of the total cases. The youngest reported patient is 10 months old, while the oldest is 94 years old.
Health officials are urging residents to support the intensified “Mag 5S Kontra Dengue: Patyon ang Kiti-Kiti, Tapnaon ang Dengue” campaign, which promotes the following key preventive measures:
* Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites
* Self-protection measures (e.g., wearing long sleeves, using mosquito repellent)
* Seek early consultation for symptoms
* Support fogging operations in identified hotspot areas
* Sustain adequate hydration to help manage symptoms
