GUIMARAS – The inflation rate in this island province dropped to 0.5 percent in June 2025 from 0.8 percent in the previous month, as midyear figures reflected a continued decline in consumer prices from the 6.2 percent recorded in June 2024, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) – Guimaras.
“The downtrend in the overall inflation in June 2025 was primarily influenced by the slower annual changes in the indices of the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 1.2 percent during the month, from 3.7 percent in May 2025,” Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare said.
The slow-moving annual price change of transport at 0.1 percent in June from 1.2 percent in the previous month also contributed to the sluggish inflation trend, she added.
Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel services shared 83.2 percent to the downtrend of June inflation, while transport accounted for 16.0 percent.
Moreover, a dwindling annual price index was observed in recreation, sport and culture in June at 0.6 percent from 0.7 percent in May.
In contrast, two of the 13 commodity groups recorded faster inflation rates in June over May: information and communication (2.9 percent from 2.7 percent) and personal care and miscellaneous goods and services (1.3 percent from 1.1 percent).
The other seven commodities, meanwhile, retained their previous month’s inflation rate: food and non-alcoholic beverages: 1.8 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco: 7.7 percent, clothing and footwear: 2.6 percent, health: 1.4 percent, education services: 0.0, restaurants and accommodation services: 10.4 percent, and financial services: 0.0 percent.
Also, the overall inflation rate in Guimaras in June was primarily influenced by restaurants and accommodation services, with a 131.7 percent contribution to the province’s inflation rate, or 0.66 percentage points.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco followed closely with a 90.4 percent impact on the overall province’s inflation, or 0.45 percentage points.
“The inflation rate is the rate of change in the consumer price index (CPI) derived by computing the indices relative to the same period in the previous year or month, and currently, Guimaras province posted a 132.6 CPI, translating that a typical Guimarasnon household needs 1,326.00 pesos in June 2025 to purchase a basket of goods and services worth 1000 pesos in 2018,” Losare clarified.
She added that the Purchasing Power of the Peso (PPP) in the province was at 0.75 in June, indicating that one peso in 2018 is now worth 0.75 centavos./PN
