NEGROS Occidental – A five-year-old boy was found dead inside an uncovered well near his home in Sitio Bita, Barangay Suay, Himamaylan City.

The child’s lifeless body was discovered by his father, alias “Greg,” at around 6 p.m. on July 15 after hours of searching.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Grande, chief of the Himamaylan City Police Station, the boy was last seen around Tuesday noon playing near the well — an area he was known to frequent. Because it had become part of his daily routine, his parents may have grown complacent and did not immediately notice his absence.

As time passed and the boy failed to return, his father launched a search around the vicinity. When Greg checked the well, he found his son floating face down, already bloated.

He immediately retrieved the body and rushed the child to the Governor Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial Hospital, where the boy was declared dead on arrival.

Grande confirmed that the well was uncovered and unguarded.

Authorities believe the child may have accidentally fallen in while playing nearby or attempting to climb it.

The Himamaylan City Police Station has requested a post-mortem examination to determine the official cause of death./PN
