CAPIZ – Sixty-six farmers from 33 barangays in Dumarao town participated in the “Kalubihan sa Kamaisan” program held at the Dumarao Civic Center.
The initiative, launched by the provincial government in partnership with the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), aims to provide each farmer with more than 55 coconut seedlings.
A total of 7,000 coconut seedlings are expected to be distributed across Dumarao, to be planted in both agricultural and upland areas as part of the program’s goal to promote sustainable coconut farming.
Among those present at the event on July 17 were 1st District’s Deputy Administrator Enrique Martin, PCA Capiz Provincial Coconut Development Manager Andy Laurilla, Mayor Mateo Hachuela, Vice Mayor Gley Hachuela, board members, barangay officials, and the farmer-beneficiaries.
The program also received full support from members of the Provincial Board.
The seedling distribution initiative was personally conceptualized by Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, who underscored its long-term benefits. These include addressing environmental issues such as soil erosion, landslides, and flooding, while also improving local livelihoods.
According to the provincial government, the program not only helps mitigate the effects of climate change but also aims to generate alternative income opportunities for Capisnon farmers, strengthening agricultural resilience and economic sustainability in the region./PN
