CAPIZ – Two men were injured after being hacked by a construction worker during a wake in Sitio Sayuyan, Barangay Malocloc Norte, Ivisan, Capiz.
The victims, identified by their aliases “Jan,” 21, and “Jason,” 25, are both residents of Sitio Tagikan, Barangay Cabugao, Ivisan. The suspect, alias “Ronie,” 42, is a construction worker and a resident of Sitio Sayuyan.
According to Police Major Ruby Magallanes, chief of the Ivisan Municipal Police Station, the victims were playing cards when a heated argument erupted between the suspect’s brother, alias “Danilo,” and Jason. The confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, causing a commotion among those attending the wake.
Upon learning of the incident, the suspect allegedly rushed to the scene armed with a bolo. He reportedly struck Jason on the head and wounded Jan on the right arm when the latter tried to intervene.
Both victims were immediately rushed to the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.
The suspect, meanwhile, fled the scene. A hot pursuit operation has since been launched by Ivisan police to locate him.
Magallanes has appealed to the suspect to surrender peacefully and face the legal consequences of his actions. Authorities were also investigating whether the attack was purely due to the altercation at the wake or if a deeper motive such as revenge may have been involved./PN
