NEGROS Occidental – The bodies of three individuals who went missing following separate drowning incidents in this province were recovered over the weekend.
Local disaster authorities reported that the remains of the 12-year-old boy and a 44-year-old resident of Barangay Cabadiangan, Himamaylan City identified as Meljon Cordero were found in barangays Payao and Santol, respectively, in Binalbagan town on Sunday, July 20.
Meanwhile, in Sagay City, the body of the 30-year-old fisherman Glen Trejeros, who had been missing since July 16, was discovered near Panal Reef within the Sagay Marine Reserve by fellow fishermen.
These fatalities came as heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon, or habagat, displaced thousands across the province.
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, 139 barangays across 18 towns and cities in the province experienced flooding, affecting 18,918 families or 31,445 individuals. Among them, 5,570 families sought shelter in evacuation centers, while more than 5,000 stayed with relatives./PN
