TAPAZ, Capiz – Two high-powered firearms were recovered following an armed encounter between troops of the Philippine Army’s 12th Infantry Battalion (12IB) and remnants of the communist terrorist group (CTG) on Saturday, July 19, at around 5:30 a.m. in Barangay Apero, Tapaz.
The operation stemmed from verified intelligence reports about the presence of rebels in the area. Acting on the information, 12IB forces launched a focused combat operation targeting a known guerrilla faction active in the region.
Soldiers engaged more than 10 heavily armed insurgents believed to be members of the Central Front and the Regional Community Defense Group under the Komiteng Rehiyon–Panay (KR-Panay).
The firefight lasted approximately 15 minutes, after which government troops recovered one M16 rifle, one AK-47 rifle, two magazines, assorted ammunition, subversive documents, and other items believed to be used by the insurgents.
No casualties were reported on the government side, underscoring the tactical efficiency of the responding military unit.
The success of the operation highlights the importance of community support in the fight against insurgency. According to the 12IB, local residents played a vital role by providing timely and reliable information, reflecting a growing collective resolve to eliminate communist influence in the area.
