CAPIZ – With the looming threats of Tropical Storm “Dante,” the provincial government, through the Provincial Health Office (PHO), has taken proactive measures to safeguard public health and enhance community resilience.
Under the leadership of Gov. Fredenil H. Castro, the PHO launched a province-wide health preparedness initiative to mitigate the possible impact of the typhoon on Capisnons.
Provincial Health Officer II Dr. Alex Nolasco spearheaded the distribution of essential health commodities and medications to local health offices and hospitals across Capiz. Among the supplies deployed were CAMPOLAS PLUS kits, which contain basic health care essentials, and Doxycycline, an antibiotic used to prevent or treat bacterial infections, including those commonly occurring after floods.
The PHO also convened a coordination meeting with the Health Emergency Response Team (HERT) to strengthen local response strategies. The meeting centered on a cluster approach, promoting collaboration among health units to ensure efficient resource management and response operations.
In addition, the PHO Operations Center has been activated to serve as the central hub for all health-related emergency coordination during the storms.
Nolasco also oversaw the prepositioning of hygiene kits, first aid kits, and other emergency health supplies — including soap, disinfectants, and sanitary products — at strategic locations. This move ensures that healthcare providers can respond swiftly and effectively to any health emergencies brought on by the storms.
These preparations form part of Capiz’s broader strategic logistics management plan, reinforcing the province’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted healthcare services during adverse weather conditions.
