BACOLOD City – This city has recorded a total of 631 dengue cases, with four reported deaths, from July 20 to 26 (morbidity week 30), according to data from the City Health Office (CHO).
The CHO said this is 67.8 percent higher than the 376 cases and one death logged during the same timeframe last year.
The highest number of cases was still reported in Barangay Mansilingan, which logged 64 cases.
CHO data further showed that majority of the patients were aged 1 to 10 years old.
Meanwhile, in the province of Negros Occidental, a total of 3,500 dengue cases and seven deaths were registered as of July 19 – 128.16 percent higher than the 1,534 cases logged in the same period in 2024.
Bago City recorded the highest number of cases at 81 with one death, followed by La Carlota City with 360 cases.
Local health authorities reminded the residents anew to always maintain cleanliness of their surroundings and practice the 4 o’clock habit.
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes aegypti species.
Its signs and symptoms include high fever, severe headaches, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, rash, and mild bleeding. In severe cases, it can lead to dengue hemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome, which can be life-threatening./PN
