MANILA — Public Works Secretary Manuel Bonoan still enjoys the confidence of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., even as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) faces a widening investigation into alleged “ghost” flood control projects.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said there have been no discussions about removing Bonoan from his post despite questions on his leadership.
“So, kung meron mang magiging aksyon patungkol kay Secretary Bonoan, hintayin lamang po natin. Pero as of the moment, nandiyan pa rin po ‘yung trust niya,” Castro told reporters when asked if Marcos continues to back the DPWH chief.
Speculation about Bonoan’s possible replacement surfaced after former Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson disclosed that he had received “feelers” from Malacañang about returning to the agency.
Castro said the Palace would seek confirmation on the matter.
“Sa ngayon po ay itatanong po natin at bibigyan ko po kayo ng detalye patungkol diyan,” she added.
The DPWH is at the center of a sweeping government probe into irregular flood control projects that allegedly involved misused funds and non-existent infrastructure.
Marcos himself has personally inspected some of the flagged sites as part of the ongoing investigation./PN
