MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) has found no verified threat against Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio or her family, saying she has also not formally reported to police any threat to their safety, including those she claimed dated back to 2023.
PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said over the weekend that authorities have taken note of Duterte-Carpio’s security concerns and are prepared to examine any evidence she may submit.
“To date, however, the Vice President has not reported to the PNP any threat to her life or to the safety of her family, including the threats she said date back to 2023,” Nartatez said.
“Likewise, the PNP has not monitored any verified threat against the Vice President or her family,” he added.
The PNP’s statement came as Duterte-Carpio raised concerns over alleged actions involving police personnel.
Despite finding no verified security threat, the PNP assisted in providing security for the Vice President when she appeared before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court on Saturday to post bail following the issuance of an arrest warrant against her.
“She was able to safely arrive at and leave the court,” the PNP said.
Nartatez said the police leadership is ready to assess any evidence Duterte-Carpio may provide regarding the alleged threats.
He encouraged the submission of documents, reports or statements that could help authorities verify the allegations and determine whether further action is necessary.
“In the performance of their duties, police personnel are expected to faithfully comply with the law, observe existing policies and procedures, and carry out their responsibilities professionally and lawfully,” Nartatez said.
The PNP also acknowledged the right of Duterte-Carpio and other individuals to raise concerns about their personal safety and their treatment by authorities.
“We will allow the verification process to take its course and provide appropriate information once the facts have been established,” Nartatez said./PN
