P7.2M worth of drugs seized in weeklong ops in Iloilo

ILOILO City – Police confiscated approximately P7.2 million worth of illegal drugs in a weeklong series of operations across Iloilo Province.

Data from the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) showed that from August 21 to August 27, various units carried out operations that also led to the arrest of eight drug suspects, two of whom were students.

IPPO director Colonel Bayani Razalan said the biggest drug haul was seized by anti-drug operatives on August 23 in Barangay Tinocuan, Dingle Iloilo where 740 grams of shabu worth P5 million were recovered.

Five persons were also arrested: aliases “Bonbon”, 39; “Bentot”, 55; “John”, 31, all residents of Barangay Tinocuan; “Francis”, 30, a resident of Barangay Dawis, Dingle; and “Jerry”, 44 of Barangay Akle, San Ildefonso, Bulacan.

The suspects also yielded long barrel homemade 12-gauge shotgun, homemade AR 15-9mm rifle, and one airsoft rifle.

Prior to this, two students were apprehended in two separate operations in Batad and Lemery towns.

The 26-year-old alias “Jeffrey”, a criminology student from Barangay Batad Viejo, Batad, was caught with P800,000 worth of shabu.

Also on the same day, a Grade 12 student was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Tabunan, Lemery. Alias “Boyboy,” 24, of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Arevalo, Iloilo City, yielded around 60 grams of shabu valued at P408,000.

IPPO recorded the latest operation on August 27 in Barangay Poblacion Ilaya, Calinog town.

Armed with a search warrant, officers of the Calinog Municipal Police Station arrested alias “Braks” at around 2:33 a.m. at his house. P1 million worth of shabu weighing 160 grams was seized.

All suspects were detained, facing appropriate charges./PN
