CAPIZ — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Capiz officially launched the 2025 Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) on October 1, with activities focusing on consumer ethics and empowerment.
Held in partnership with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), this year’s celebration carries the national theme “Bida ang Konsyumer sa Bagong Pilipinas,” underscoring the vital role of consumers in building a fair, ethical, and sustainable marketplace.
DTI-Capiz Officer-in-Charge Provincial Director Merian A. Asas and Consumer Protection Unit Head and Public Information Officer Marjorie F. Tendras both emphasized the importance of understanding and exercising the eight consumer rights and five consumer responsibilities to ensure a just and transparent trading environment.
Asas expressed her gratitude to the media for supporting DTI’s advocacy on consumer education.
“Your contributions amplify our efforts, empowering citizens to make informed choices,” she said, recognizing the media’s crucial role in promoting consumer awareness.
Tendras, meanwhile, shared Asas’ continuing push for the reorganization of Local Price Coordinating Councils in Capiz — an initiative aimed at strengthening consumer protection and monitoring of market practices.
She assured the public of DTI’s continuous monitoring of basic necessities and prime commodities, while also intensifying its consumer education programs to address issues such as overpricing, price tag compliance, online scams, and complaint handling mechanisms.
DTI-Capiz reiterated that the Consumer Welfare Month celebration is not only about raising awareness but also mobilizing collective action toward a marketplace grounded in fairness, responsibility, and ethics.
Through a series of information drives and educational activities, the agency aims to empower Capisnons to become proactive and responsible consumers who help shape a more transparent economy.
“This year’s celebration is about transforming consumers into advocates — individuals who know their rights, fulfill their responsibilities, and help build a marketplace where everyone’s voice matters,” DTI-Capiz said.
The agency invites all Capisnons to participate in the month-long observance and take an active role in promoting consumer welfare and protection./PN
