CAPIZ – The Philippine Army’s 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division (3ID) and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) officially concluded the Philippines–Australia Army-to-Army Exercise (PAAAE) “KASANGGA 2025-02” on November 7, 2025.
The month-long exercise wrapped up at Camp General Macario B. Peralta Jr. in Jamindan town, showcasing the strengthening collaboration between the two allied forces.
Hundreds of soldiers from both the Philippine Army and the ADF participated in synchronized operations and tactical drills aimed at enhancing interoperability and combat readiness. Activities included advanced training in the use of drones, boats, and various defense weapons, alongside exercises in medical response, mission planning, and unified command operations.
The closing ceremony was attended by key military leaders, including Lieutenant General Antonio G. Nafarrete, commanding general of the Philippine Army, who served as guest of honor and keynote speaker. Major General Michael G. Samson, commander of the 3ID, and Lieutenant Colonel Noel Young, Australian Assistant Defence Attaché to the Philippines, were also present, together with Brigadier General Michael G. Logico, commander of the Training and Doctrine Command, and other officers and troops from both forces.
In his address, Nafarrete praised the successful outcome of the exercise, highlighting the importance of continuous training and the practical application of learned skills.
“It is often said that we train as we fight. Knowledge and skills acquired during training are only valuable when implemented in action. I trust that the dedication demonstrated throughout this exercise will be carried forward as you return to your units, preparing for future challenges,” he said.
Young expressed appreciation for the exceptional jungle and survival training provided by the Philippine Army, emphasizing its value in enhancing Australia’s jungle warfare capabilities.
“The Australian soldiers will return home with a far greater appreciation of the impressive capabilities of the Philippine Army. I am confident they will all go back better prepared as jungle fighters and as ambassadors of the Philippine Army, eager for future engagements. We came as partners, and we leave as friends,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, Samson underscored the mutual learning experience and the enduring partnership between the two forces.
“This exercise has not only improved our tactical capabilities and interoperability but has also strengthened the bonds of friendship and trust between our forces. We are proud to have trained alongside our Australian counterparts and look forward to future engagements that will further solidify our alliance,” he said.
The successful completion of “KASANGGA 2025-02” marks a milestone in the growing defense partnership between the Philippines and Australia, reflecting both nations’ commitment to regional security and collaborative military development, and paving the way for deeper cooperation in the future./PN
