ANTIQUE – The Antique Provincial Police Office (APPO) is eyeing zero injuries from firecrackers during the celebration of Christmas and New Year.
APPO director Colonel Lea Rose Peña, in an interview on Wednesday, reminded the public to mind their safety as they celebrate the holidays.
“Let us be responsible in safeguarding our own safety by not lighting firecrackers that could harm us,” she said.
She also called on the public on the dangers posed by boga or improvised cannon to community.
Based on the record of the Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), there were 11 injuries caused by boga from December 24, 2024 to January 1, 2025.
Two other injuries were reported, caused by a whistle bomb and kwitis (skyrocket).
Peña said the police will ensure that firecrackers are lit only in common designated areas of the municipalities to minimize harm to by-passers.
“Let us celebrate Christmas safe and injury-free,” she said.
Meanwhile, Peña warned the Antique police against indiscriminate firing, saying that violators will face immediate action.
Philippine National Police Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. earlier announced the implementation of the one-strike policy, where police personnel will be held administratively and criminally liable for indiscriminate firing this holiday season. (PNA)
