Teenage student hurt in firecracker incident in Kabankalan City

NEGROS Occidental — An 18-year-old female student was injured after being accidentally hit by fireworks during a display in Barangay Camugao, Kabankalan City, on the night of December 24, according to a spot report from the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO).

Police identified the victim as a resident of Sitio Patay, Barangay Camugao. The incident reportedly occurred at around 10:30 p.m. while she was watching a fireworks display in the barangay.

Records from the Kabankalan City Police Station (CCPS) showed that the incident came to the attention of authorities at around noon on December 29, when a duty investigator coordinated with Gumersindo Hospital to check for possible firecracker-related injuries treated at the facility.

Hospital personnel confirmed that the victim was brought to the hospital on the night of December 24 after sustaining blast burn injuries to her abdomen and forearm caused by fireworks. She received medical treatment and was later advised to go home.

Following the hospital coordination, police proceeded to the victim’s residence to conduct further investigation. Initial findings indicated that the injuries were accidental and occurred while the victim was merely watching the fireworks display.
