Laborer gunned down in La Castellana

NEGROS Occidental — A 44-year-old laborer was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Sitio Old Manghanoy, Barangay Manghanoy, La Castellana town, on Monday evening, January 5.

According to the La Castellana Municipal Police Station (MPS), the shooting occurred at around 6:30 p.m. while the victim identified as alias “Noli” was with his cousin at their small fishpond.

Initial police investigation revealed that several unidentified suspects suddenly emerged from a nearby sugarcane plantation, approached the victim, and shot him multiple times.

Police said after the shooting, the assailants reportedly shouted in the vernacular, “Dugay ka na namon ginpangita”, before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The victim sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body. He was rushed to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

As of this writing, officers of the La Castellana MPS continued to gather information and evidence to determine the motive behind the killing, and identify and arrest the perpetrators. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
