BACOLOD City — A 56-year-old farmer was injured after he was allegedly hacked by his nephew during a confrontation in Barangay Tagoc, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday night, August 6.
Police identified the victim only as alias “Naldo,” married and a resident of Purok Cadlum, Barangay Camingawan, Kabankalan City. The suspect was identified as alias “Nel,” 29, single, a laborer and resident of Purok Mangga, Barangay Tagoc.
According to the Kabankalan City Component Police Station (CCPS), the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in Purok Mangga.
Initial police investigation showed that the suspect was allegedly under the influence of liquor when he confronted the victim, who is his uncle, over a previous misunderstanding involving the victim and the suspect’s brother.
A heated argument reportedly ensued, during which the suspect allegedly armed himself with a sugarcane cutter and hacked the victim, hitting him on the head.
The victim’s family immediately sought assistance from barangay officials.
Barangay officials and tanods responded to the area and successfully apprehended the suspect. He was later turned over to the Kabankalan CCPS.
The incident was reported to the police at around 9:45 p.m., by which time the victim had already been brought to Kabankalan City Hospital for medical treatment.
The victim sustained a hack wound to the head and remained under medical care at the hospital.
The suspect is currently under police custody pending the filing of appropriate charges./PN
