CAPIZ — A 26-year-old farmer, known by the alias “Nonoy,” is recovering after he was stabbed late Tuesday night, January 6, in Barangay Agdahon, Cuartero, Capiz.
The suspect, identified as alias “Rechico,” 45, also a resident of the barangay, was arrested shortly after the incident and is now in police custody.
Police Captain Jesse Lepaña, officer-in-charge of the Cuartero Municipal Police Station, said the stabbing stemmed from an argument that erupted during a drinking session at the suspect’s residence.
Witnesses told police that a verbal altercation between the two men escalated into a physical confrontation, which led to the stabbing.
The victim sustained a stab wound in the abdomen and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, Lepaña said.
Responding officers arrested the suspect at the scene. He was detained at the Cuartero police station.
As of press time, police were gathering statements from witnesses and determining the circumstances that led to the incident. Tthe victim’s family has yet to indicate whether they will file formal charges against the suspect.
Lepaña urged residents to avoid excessive alcohol consumption, noting that intoxication often leads to poor judgment and violent behavior.
“We encourage everyone to drink responsibly and avoid situations that could escalate into violence,” he said, adding that community cooperation is vital in maintaining peace and order./PN
