KALIBO, Aklan — The week-long Ati-Atihan Festival concluded peacefully with no major crime incidents recorded, reflecting strong security measures and community cooperation, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) reported on Monday, January 19, 2026.
This year’s celebration highlighted the rich cultural and religious traditions of the Akeanons and drew thousands of pilgrims and tourists to Kalibo for the festival’s vibrant street dancing, parades, and religious activities.
PRO-6 reported a 75-percent reduction in crime incidents compared to last year, with only two minor cases recorded during the festivities. These included a physical altercation between two individuals, which was immediately resolved, and a case involving illegal possession of banknotes.
Police Regional Director PBGen Josefino D. Ligan credited the peaceful outcome to the coordinated efforts of the Site Task Group ATIFEST 2026 and the cooperation of various government agencies, volunteers, and the local community.
“The cooperation and diligence displayed by all agencies, volunteers, and community members were crucial in ensuring a safe and orderly celebration,” Ligan said.
To maintain peace and order, a total of 3,318 personnel from the police, local government units, and other stakeholders were deployed to strategic locations across Kalibo.
Authorities said the comprehensive security plan played a key role in crowd management and in ensuring quick response to any potential security concerns throughout the festivities.
Ligan also acknowledged the support of local government units, volunteers, and festival-goers, noting that public compliance with security protocols significantly contributed to the smooth conduct of the event.
“We extend our gratitude to everyone involved. Your vigilance and cooperation made this year’s Ati-Atihan Festival safe and successful,” he added.
PRO-6 reiterated its commitment to strengthening inter-agency coordination and community partnerships to ensure the security of major events across Western Visayas.
