ANTIQUE – An early morning fire destroyed one house and damaged another in Barangay Lapaz, Hamtic town on Monday, February 9.
Authorities said the blaze originated from the house of alias “Leah” at around 2 a.m. and spread to the neighboring house owned by their relative.
Fire Officer 1 Andrei Hec Fullon, arson investigator of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Hamtic, confirmed that Leah’s residence was made of light materials, leading to it being totally burned.
The BFP-Hamtic said the fire reached second alarm, prompting a call for assistance from the neighboring fire station to help contain the blaze and prevent further spread to other nearby structures.
Leah, in an interview, said she was the first to notice the blaze. She had woken up to use the restroom and charge her mobile phone. Upon looking up, she saw the roof of their house already engulfed in flames.
Due to the rapid spread of the fire, Leah’s family was unable to save any of their belongings.
As of this writing, BFP-Hamtic was still conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire and the total value of the properties lost./PN
