BACOLOD City – A carabao broker was killed in a brutal hacking incident on Sunday, February 8, in Sitio Ronel, Barangay San Isidro, EB Magalona, Negros Occidental.
The victim identified by the alias “Anoy,” 49, a married resident of the place, was reportedly on his way home at around 11 a.m. after acting as a broker in a carabao transaction when the incident occurred.
According to the EB Magalona Municipal Police Station (MPS), the victim encountered the suspect, identified as alias “Joma,” 47, a fellow carabao broker, who allegedly attacked the former without any apparent provocation. The suspect hacked the victim in the neck.
Police said the victim was brought to the Municipal Health Office of EB Magalona, where he was officially pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The suspect, meanwhile, immediately fled after the incident, but was successfully tracked down and arrested by responding officers later that day.
As of press time, the suspect remained in police custody. EB Magalona police were conducting a follow-up investigation to determine the motive behind the killing and were preparing to file formal charges against the suspect./PN
